about

"You Want to Know" is a rhythmic and direct call to action. It is a rallying cry for black people to remember where we come from and that our gift of dance is directly intertwined with our resistance. Represented on the cover are a very small handful of freedom fighters and land defenders. These woman represent real people including (left to right) Sanite Belair, Nanny of the Maroons, the Karo people, La Mulatresse Solitude and the Oromo people. With the abstence of their faces, We hope to encourage black people to see our reflection within their stories and revel in this greatness.

All funds from this record will go to Nina's Daughters Collective, an organization supporting black woman musicians and currently fundraising for a physical studio (more info here: www.gofundme.com/f/support-black-womxn-musicians-and-artist)

lyrics

This is a call to dance, in the streets!

You want to know, why they dance so
You want to know, Why the angry dance
You want to know, Where it is from
You want to know, then come and meet me in the streets

Come and dance with me in the streets,
See my eyes in the street
Let me hit you with my-

This is a call to dance IN THE STREETS.

[Verse 2]
You want to know. If it’s coming here
You want to know, what you should fear
You want to know, how to spread that fear
You want to know then come and meet me in the streets.

You must dance with me in the streets,
Feel the heat from the street
Feel your beat wilt from the heat
We are the streets

This is a call to dance, IN THE STREETS

You want to know, why the street dance
You want to know, who miss your class
You want to know, why commerce last.
You want to know, how to tax my grass.
You want to know, nothing bout my past.
You want to know, about my access pass
You want to know, how you feel the heat
From the million dancing feet.
Ask the streets.

Come and Dance with me in the streets,
We the people we are the streets

When the party reach
What you’re gonna preach
When the border breach
We on the street
When the party come
Bring your kettle drum
But this time we not having non

When the party reach
What you’re gonna preach
When the border breach
We on the street
When the party come
Bring your kettle drum
But this time we not having non
